Causes Of Excessively Shiny Skin

In order to best treat shiny skin, it’s important to understand more about our skin and what causes excess oil build up.

Our skin has a natural ability to make oil. This helps keep our skin moist and soft. We don’t want to get rid of this. However, sometimes our skin becomes so oily that it causes shiny skin and breakouts.

One way to stop this excess oil production is to use retinoid (Retin-A) products. There are several that are over-the-counter. There are also prescription strength retinoids that your dermatologist can write for.

These penetrate deep into the dermis, where the hair follicle is, and get rid of the excess oil production. As a result, in a matter of weeks, you will see a noticeable difference in terms of shiny skin and breakouts.

These products also help exfoliate the skin. The get rid of the excess oil and build up that causes shiny skin and breakouts. However, it is still important to use a good moisturizer to prevent the skin from getting too dry.

You dermatologist may also recommend using a chemical peel such as a glycolic acid or lactic acid peel to help exfoliate the skin and clear up clogged pores. Even Cleopatra used milk bathes (milk contains lactic acid) to help exfoliate her skin and get that healthy glow.
