BROWN SPOTS (DISCOLORATION)

Brown spots are usually associated with sun exposure and can be one of the earliest signs of aging.

That’s the bad news!  The good news is that many various treatments are available for the treatment of brown spots including cryotherapy, lasers, creams, peels and lasers.

In order to properly treat brown spots (and not risk making them worse!), due attention must be paid to skin types and underlying skin conditions of the patient.  The treatment for your brown spots must be designed personally for you, only after a careful and thorough clinical exam.  If you are interested in discussing options for your brown spot treatment, please contact us. Some of the options are discussed below.

IPL Photo Facial

An IPL/Photo facial is a specialized light system that can address both brown and red spots on the skin anywhere on the body. A series of treatments are required for optimal results with IPL to even out the skin tone and get rid of discoloration.

Some patients with ethnic skin or certain skin conditions such as melasma may need prior treatment before IPL/Photo Facial, with creams to make this treatment safer for their skin type. The treatments are very comfortable especially if “numbing creams” have been applied beforehand.

Before any treatment however, a through medical exam and evaluation of skin type and any underlying conditions is necessary to assure that you are a good candidate for this treatment (not everyone is), and if you are, to achieve great results focused on improving, not worsening, the skin problem.

Chemical Peels

There are many types of chemical peels on the market to solve a range of problems from fine lines to discoloration. Choosing the right peel is important and it depends on your skin type as well as the underlying medical condition of your skin. For example, the brown spots or pigment in the skin that you see could be superficial, or they can be deep within the skin.  Your dermatologist can evaluate exactly what is happening with your skin, and together you can select the right chemical peel to achieve the results.
