Treatments for Skin Infections

Most people think of bacterial infections when they think of itchy skin. However, skin diseases can be the result of various infections not just with bacteria, but with viruses, and fungi. Some infections, such as fungi, can present as itchy skin, while others may be painful such as those of bacterial or viral origin.

Skin infection treatment, therefore, would only work correctly with proper diagnosis of the exact type of infection. Antibiotics only work on a bacterial infection, while there are anti-viral and anti-fungal medications that work on viruses and fungi respectively.

If you have itchy skin, you may not have an infection at all and maybe having a type of dermatitis or eczema.

Dermatologists specialize in all types of skin diseases and are trained to start proper forms of skin infection treatment. Upon taking a proper history, and careful exam, Dr. Kormeili is able to diagnose and render proper treatment from itchy skin to any other types of skin diseases.
