Spider veins are small, thin red or purple colored tiny veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves, and ankles. Many factors contribute to the development of spider veins, including heredity, pregnancy and other events that cause hormonal shifts. They can be of cosmetic concern to both men and women if you are embarrassed by their appearance.

Before and After Photos

Deep varicose veins need varicose veins laser treatment that should be done by vascular surgeons or under interventional radiology, due to their risk of throwing blood clots.

Small spider veins can be treated by sclerotherapy. We define sclerotherapy as the injection of an irritant that is placed via a very thin in the tiny spider veins. Such salts damage the inner lining of the spider veins, causing them to shrink and dissolve away; hence the magic of sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy is the treatment of choice for certain spider veins – depending on the caliber of the vessel. It takes a few weeks to see the full effect of the treatment of these veins, and in the meantime, a temporary redness is expected at the injection site.

Before embarking on a treatment plan, it is important to evaluate the skin and observe the veins. Also, you should know that often more than one treatment is needed to completely clear spider veins.
