Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Type of Skin Cancer
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common form of skin cancer. It is also associated with DNA damage as a result of sun exposure. It can be the result of untreated actinic keratosis. They can appear as rough scaly sores that bleed or do not heal. Those with fair skin, excessive sun exposure or weakened immune systems are more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma.
These cancers are diagnosed and confirmed after proper biopsy and evaluation under the microscope. Surgical, chemical and mechanical treatment options exist, as well as creams to treat SCCs.
