There are a variety of benign (non-cancerous) growths on the skin that can be a nuisance to the patient. Some of these growths can mimic skin cancers, or falsely appear as non-cancerous and need a biopsy (examination under the microscope) to properly diagnose them. Therefore, the removal of skin tags, skin growths or skin spots should be performed by a highly trained dermatologist. Missing certain skin cancers can be lethal.
