Dermatofibromas

Dermatofibromas are brown firm bumps that can sometimes mimic moles and cause concern for patients. These are tough, purple firm bumps on the skin. Usually, they are the result of a bug bite or skin injury that stimulates fibroblast production in the skin resulting in these lesions. While few are bothersome, some may become itchy or painful and need treatment.

The reason dermatofibromas may concern patients is that they may look like moles, and so diligent patients who are performing regular skin checks on themselves may become worried. We commend patients who are keeping an eye on their skin, and it is important to have a doctor evaluate whether it is indeed just a dermatofibroma.
