You work out, you keep fit and even wear your SPF, but still can’t wear a cute pair of shorts or your favorite skirts, because of these pesky little spider veins! We totally understand! Luckily, we have spider vein treatment options.
Before we discuss spider vein treatment options, let’s talk a little about spider veins and leg veins. Spider veins are small, red or blue veins easily seen on the surface of the skin. Bulging varicose veins usually arise from broken valves in the vein that connects the surface veins to the deep veins.
Most people know that sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time is a risk factor. Obesity, pregnancy, getting older, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, genetics, and a history of blood clots also put you at risk.
Spider Vein Treatment Options
Sclerotherapy
This is a common procedure performed in a dermatology office. It is effective at getting rid of the majority of spider veins as well as some varicose veins.
Sclerotherapy does not require any anesthesia. Your dermatologist will inject a solution directly into the veins that causes the vein to collapse and fade away. For best results we recommend multiple sessions.
You may experience some bruising, swelling, bleeding, or skin discoloration at the injection site. All of which are temporary.
Laser Therapy
This is a great alternative or addition to sclerotherapy. Sometimes we use it along with sclerotherapy to give maximum results. It’s great at treating both spider veins and tiny varicose veins.
It works by using a beam of light that heats up and damages the affected blood vessel, causing it to fade away. You may experience minor redness, bruising or swelling around the affected area.
If you have a fear of needles then laser may be a better option for you.
Between lasers and sclerotherapy injections, we can fix this problem, and celebrate our favorite fashion wear once again! To learn more about your spider vein treatment options, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
