About
What is Melasma? Melasma (chloasma) appears as an uneven dark spots of the face, especially over the cheeks, forehead and upper lip. Melasma can mimic sun spots (solar lentigenes and lentigo senalis) because it is also a series of brown spots on the face.
It can be associated with pregnancy, birth control pills or sun exposure. Melasma presents a cosmetic condition and is not associated with internal disease. At the same time, many patients would prefer to address the change.
Melasma during pregnancy (AKA the mask of pregnancy) can be especially tough since there are so many restrictions in treating a pregnant woman. There are various treatments that can be utilized to help with melasma during pregnancy and Dr. Tanya Kormeili specializes in compounding and prescribing safe products to address this, and other concerns as part of our mommy make-over treatments.
