Acne & Acne Scarring

Acne Vulgaris

There are different types of acne such as cystic acne, adult acne, or simple acne vulgaris that can also result in back acne that can really bother patients. Determining the type of acne one has is the key to proper treatment.

Before we treat acne scars, we need to medically eradicate (get rid of!) the acne. Adult acne may be the result of hormonal changes or stress, and needs prescription medication to be property controlled. Cystic acne has been know to cause severe scarring, and acne scars are among the hardest conditions to treat, especially on ethnic skin. Back acne can also cause discoloration and scarring.

Acne vulgaris, if not very severe, can often be controlled with prescription strong topical creams, chemical peels, and lasers, with no need for oral medication. When severe, however, acne vulgaris, cystic acne and even adult acne require oral medication along with chemical peels and lasers to show real improvement fast.

Back acne is tough because it is hard to reach. Often, use of chemical peels performed in our office, in addition to prescription medication, help clear back acne very fast and effectively. Sometimes a short course of antibiotics is all that is needed to control back acne.

To further hasten the process of clearing acne, whether adult acne, back acne, cystic acne or simple acne vulgaris, and to decrease the toxicity of medications, we can use in office procedures discussed below. These treatments help clear both the acne and the scarring from acne simultaneously.
