Actinic keratosis (AK) is a precancerous lesion resulting from prolonged exposure to damaging UV radiation. AK’s appears as rough, scaly red areas anywhere on the body. If left untreated, AK’s can turn into squamous cell skin cancer. There are many effective and easy treatments for AK’s once they have been diagnosed. One important way to have AK’s diagnosed is during a routine complete skim exam by a qualified dermatologist.
